Vote Suppression 3.0

Its that time of year again. With federal elections rapidly approaching I’ve been paying attention to news about voter suppression activities going on. Surprisingly, these all seem to be focused on Republican Party shenanigans. I’m going to be reposting articles and interviews with people talking about this subject. We’ll see how this goes.

For starters, check out this great tool to educate yourself about voter suppression and how you can fight it. Voter Suppression Wiki

from Riz Khan at aljazeera.net Check out part 2 here

From Democracy Now! a short clip with Greg Palast about vote rigging and suppression

Also from Democracy Now! a great interview with Mark Crispin Miller, author of Loser Take All: Election Fraud and the Subversion of Democracy.

The Real News Network has a great interview with Spencer Overton Professor of Law at The George Washington University Law School. Watch Part 2 || Part 3

And then the website Velvet Revolution has this interview with cyber security expert Stephen Spoonamore about Karl Rove’s IT guru Michael Connell’s effort to steal votes.

Clint Curtis testifying that he created a program designed to rig electronic voting machines in September 2000 for former Florida Speaker of the House Tom Feeney. Feeney now a U.S. Representative in Congress for Florida’s district 24 was Jeb Bush’s running mate in his first race for governor. This video is testimony from a hearing in Ohio.

For some background I would suggest two more interviews from Democracy Now! The first one is with Harvey Wasserman, senior editor of the Ohio-based freepress.org and author of “What Happened in Ohio: A Documentary Record of Theft and Fraud in the 2004 Election.”

And then from way back in 2002, a roundtable discussion called Who Gets to Vote?

Update: Here’s another great video short about voting troubles.

Update 2: Democracy Now! has a follow up interview with Mark Crispin Miller. He talks some more about Mike Connell and his company GovTech Solutions’ role in stealing our elections| (Part 2) | Read transcript

*** And just so you know how this stuff works, we export it too… Now that’s what I call spreading democracy.
